Expats could benefit from more green travel Green-minded expats in Dubai could benefit from more environmentally friendly public transport in the region

Dubai Metro has reported that it has saved around $5 million £3 million in changing the design of the trains and stations

It claims that more natural light now comes into the stations, saving on electricity

In addition, it is recycling available energy through using electronic inverters for braking trains, which results in close to a 30 per cent cut in energy usage

Expats could find that using the metro is an attractive, cheap and convenient way of getting around the city

The state's investment in public transport is part of its mission to reduce public reliance on private transport and improve air quality

Last week, the Dubai Metro released new figures revealing that around 56 million commuters used buses the first half of the year

The state has extensively restructured services and routes in order to make them more efficient, frequent and less wasteful of energy
