A personal letter from Prince Charles may have motivated the Qatari prime minister to end plans for a £3 billion property development in London
Prince Charles' letter urged the prime minister to reconsider the visual impact of the project, which was reportedly of a Brutalist design
He described the intended site of the development in Belgravia as one of great historical importance to London
The Qatari Diar Real Estate Development QDRED project would have been situated on the old Chelsea Barracks site opposite the Royal Hospital
Communication between the Prince and the prime minister was made public, during an £81 million breach of contract case over the plan to build on the barracks
QDRED being sued by its former development partner Christian Candy of the CPP group after it withdrew from the project
The site was bought for close to £1 billion by the Qatari company and Christian Candy in May 2006, but original plans for 350 luxury flats were abandoned by the local residents association
